N. veitchii – Bario Highland – grex 1: BE-3734 LARGE
The plants under this item are all resulting from a seed harvest taken from one female seed head, which we refer to as a ‘grex’. In this case, we have called it ‘grex #1’.
History: First introduced in Dec 2016 from seed harvested in Dec 2012, it was always in massive demand. It went out of stock in Aug 2019 and returned in Oct 2020 at the same time as BE-4033 was introduced, which is from a different grex of seeds using different parent plants.
Description: This item is a random selection from hundreds of different clones, being a mixture obtained from an entire single seed head. It was created in our nurseries from mother plants, which themselves are selected clones from seed-raised individuals. Both male and female parents are of the Bareo form of the species. The female parent is the pure gold form, with our Collection ID# 0191 and the male parent has a candy-striped peristome and pink pitcher body, with our collection ID# 0197. Both parents are shown in the photos at the end of the series.
As might be expected, the plants we are seeing are highly variable. Peristome colouration ranges from pure gold to candy striped and pitcher bodies vary from gold to pink, with all sorts of variations in between. Some pitchers are squat and others not. The huge number of clones involved in this cross makes this item particularly interesting, since you are very unlikely to get two identical individuals.
This item differs from BE-4033 in that both parent plants are different clones and have different appearances from the parents used to create BE-4033. Therefore, the colourations and forms are likely to vary between this item and BE-4033.
Photo notes: Photos are of representative clones and may not be identical to plants shipped. The last two photos in the series are of the actual parent plants.
