Hydnophytum puffii - This is a relatively newly de Hydnophytum puffii - This is a relatively newly described ant plant (2016). A linear-leaved epiphyte known so far to only come from Sabah, Malaysia. The leaves are leathery and have narrow branches. There are tiny openings in the caudex which leads to a labyrinth of interior chambers. Myrmecophytes ( literally "ant-plant") are plants that live in a mutualistic association with a colony of ants. There are over 100 different genera of myrmecophytes and they are not necessarily closely related. In exchange for food and shelter, ants aid the myrmecophyte in #pollination, #seeddispersal, gathering of essential nutrients, and/or defense. In addition to the bulbous #caudex Myrmephytum selebicum has beautiful leaves. Grows kind of like an #orchid- 60-90F, bright indirect light, water thoroughly and allow to dry between watering. When ants aren't present, benefits from foliar feeding.
