Look closely at a Venus flytrap… those “eyelashes” Look closely at a Venus flytrap… those “eyelashes” aren’t just for looks 👀🪰 There’s even a Venus flytrap cultivar named “Eyelashes,” selected for its extra long, pronounced cilia — the spiky fringe around each trap. These exaggerated “lashes” give the plant a dramatic, almost cartoonish look compared to typical flytraps. In all Venus flytraps, the cilia help form a cage when the trap snaps shut, preventing larger prey from escaping while allowing tiny insects to slip through. They don't want to waste their time with a small snack. But in the “Eyelashes” cultivar, that feature is taken to the extreme, making it a standout in any collection. It’s Flytrap Friday 🪰 Check out this exciting cro It’s Flytrap Friday 🪰 Check out this exciting cross — DXL x an all-red Venus flytrap cultivar. This pairing brings together the large, vigorous growth of DXL with the deep red pigmentation that makes all-red cultivars so eye-catching. Earlier this year, it was producing much larger traps, but now it’s already shifting into winter leaves — not an ideal trait for cultivation. Still, it’s always interesting to observe how different crosses express growth habits and seasonal timing. The result? Bold genetics, strong potential, and a plant that keeps you on your toes as it develops. Look at these tiny baby Venus flytraps… but someth Look at these tiny baby Venus flytraps… but something is a little different 👀🪰 These are the ‘Cupped Trap’ cultivar — a truly unique form of Dionaea muscipula. Instead of opening flat like a typical trap, the lobes are partially fused together, creating a cup or bowl shape. Each plant can vary, with some traps tightly fused and others only slightly cupped. As they grow, you’ll see a mix of quirky, distorted traps that make every plant one-of-a-kind. These are still very small, but already showing off those signature cupped traps.
