One (1) Utricularia bisquamata ‘Betty’s Bay’ — 1” x 1” plug

🌸✨ Cute, weedy, and constantly blooming — ‘Betty’s Bay’ is one of the most rewarding bladderworts you can grow!

This well-known cultivar produces a dense, grassy mat of fine leaves and sends up an endless supply of delicate purple flowers with a bright yellow throat — often described as tiny “snapdragon-like” blooms 🌿💜

Expect a 1” x 1” plug of actively growing plants. Your plug may or may not be in flower at the time of shipping, but under good conditions, they bloom frequently and can flower almost nonstop!

This is a vigorous and extremely easy-to-grow terrestrial bladderwort that thrives in a wide range of conditions. It adapts well to full sun or shade, windowsills, greenhouses, and terrariums, and tolerates a broad range of temperatures — making it a great choice for beginners and experienced growers alike.

They will ship as a plug in a plastic bag. You can place the plug directly onto suitable carnivorous plant media and it will quickly establish.

They do excellent in 1:1 peat and sand or peat and perlite, but can also be grown in long fiber sphagnum. We grow them in 80% peat and 20% perlite. As the unremarkable leaves fill in their pot, that is when you can expect them to bloom — a trait common among many terrestrial Utricularia 🌱

We flood them in about 2” of water at the beginning of the month, then allow the water level to drop most of the way down before watering again — do not let the substrate fully dry out. This wet-dry cycle works very well for this species.

Misting with diluted MaxSea fertilizer about 2x per month will help encourage frequent blooming 🌸

It does not require dormancy and grows year-round indoors. While it spreads readily by division, it rarely sets seed and is not considered invasive. It copes well with temperature extremes, from near freezing up to over 95 °F (35 °C).

Flowers are produced in abundance from early summer through fall, and often nearly year-round in cultivation.

You may see this plant listed under older or incorrect names such as ‘Bettys Bay’, ‘Betties Bay’, or ‘Giant Bay’ — the correct cultivar name is Utricularia bisquamata ‘Betty’s Bay’.

Ships as a live plug. Due to schedule and safety, live plants ship out ONLY on Mondays.
