One (1) Utricularia rostrata — 1” x 1” plug
🌸✨ Rare, delicate, and full of character — Utricularia rostrata is a unique Brazilian species that brings subtle beauty and constant interest to any collection!
Native to the Chapada Diamantina highlands of Bahia, Brazil, this terrestrial bladderwort grows in damp, sandy soils near streams and waterfalls — often in bright, semi-shaded conditions 🌿
This species produces small but beautiful flowers that can range from white to violet, typically with a yellow marking on the lower lip. The form we grow produces clean white flowers 🤍
Expect a 1” x 1” plug of actively growing plants. Your plug may or may not be in flower at the time of shipping, but once established, they can bloom frequently under good conditions.
They will ship as a plug. You can place the plug directly onto suitable carnivorous plant media and it will establish and slowly spread.
They do excellent in peat-based mixes such as 1:1 peat and sand or peat and perlite. Keep consistently moist to wet, but not completely waterlogged long-term.
They grow well in bright light — a sunny windowsill, under grow lights, or bright outdoor shade. Strong lighting will encourage better growth and more frequent blooms.
We flood them in about 2” of water at the beginning of the month, then allow the water level to drop most of the way down before watering again — do not let the substrate fully dry out. This wet-dry cycle works very well for this species.
Misting with MaxSea fertilizer about 2x per month will help encourage frequent blooming 🌸
It does not require dormancy and can be grown year-round indoors.
This species was formally described in 2009 by Andreas Fleischmann and Fernando Rivadavia — and yes, we’re friends with Fernando, which makes growing this one even more special!
Ships as a live plug. Due to schedule and safety, live plants ship out ONLY on Mondays.
